The Cozy Aspects of Winter Time

There are many children’s Christmas songs that are enjoyable to listen to. For example the ever cheerful song with the chorus of let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow! It makes a person look forward to the holidays that usually occur from November through December. The song depicts a cozy indoor setting while the terrible winter weather is swirling outside. The spark of a crackling fire while people sit on comfortable couches sipping cider, hot chocolate or coffee makes a great memory to reflect on in the future. Though frightful weather is not always so enjoyable, it is nice to remember the positive aspects of it. Just because one is “stuck ” in the house does not mean there are not great indoor activities to do. The winter time is a great time to get back to certain hobbies. For ladies, this could be knitting, sewing or just reading a great book. For men they may like to tinker on their cars, work in a wood shop or sit in their favorite chair browsing a “Popular Mechanics” magazine. Not every winter day is going to be especially cheerful and productive but it passes by more quickly if you “make the best of it”.

Are Real Christmas Wreaths Better for the Environment?

Christmas Wreath is one of the irreplaceable décors to have in the holiday seasons. Since a lot of the Christmas decors end up going back to the environment at the end of the season, people are now more concerned about their harmful effects. Since consequences of their purchases have an effect on the environment, people are now being more concerned with renewable resources. Many are rejecting artificial Christmas wreaths and opting for natural ones for this reason.

Most artificial wreaths which are available during Christmas have plastic and petroleum based products. Unless you live in a cave, you are well aware that these are not renewable. Many people are disheartened by this alone so as not to buy artificial wreaths. Artificial wreaths do have their uses though. The best reason to buy these is because they last for many years. They can last even for ten years but most people buy new wreaths every few years.

Live Christmas wreaths no doubt have tons of environmental benefits. Once you remove the frame and wiring, they become very easy to recycle. It is great that many communities have recycling programs during the Christmas seasons. They have chippers in place which can chip entire Christmas trees and wreaths into mulch. A lot of people do not get to use these for wreaths though because they tend to leave them till the New Year. Real Christmas wreaths are known as renewable resources. Environmentalists will be happy to know that no trees are cut down to make Christmas wreath. They are made from the trimming of the greenery. The end points of branches are cut down to make them which grow back very quickly. Even if they are cut up to eighteen inches, they start to grow back after a year. This is a far better practice than Christmas trees. Farms that produce Christmas trees usually plant three Christmas trees for each one they cut down, but they are still cutting them down. For wreaths it’s more like pruning.

One of the best things about natural wreaths is that the fresh fragrance they deliver. They also look very peaceful while they hang on your wall. Natural wreaths degrade over time and at the end of the season they look grey and cold as if they are saying goodbye to the season. This feeds a sense of nostalgia and is well appreciated by most people. Another best thing about natural wreaths is that you can make them from your own backyard. You will only require some wire frames and a few bundles of garden trimmings to make them at home. Even though they do not last for long, they will certainly last through the holiday season. Making Christmas wreath at home can be a fun family activity where every member can take a part in. You can even let the children help by letting them pick pinecones and berries. Making them at home is recommended because this way you can add a personal touch to your holiday decorations.
